Tori Petryshyn
CCC, BHS
Hi there, I’m so glad you found my profile.
My name is Tori, and I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor working with individuals ages 16+. I know that starting therapy can feel daunting, and finding the right counsellor can be even harder. That’s why I want to share a little about what it’s like to work with me.
I’ve learned that sexual trauma and other relational wounds happen in relationships, which is why therapy provides a safe space for healing and a model for building supportive relationships beyond the therapy room. I believe you are the expert on your own body, yet in our distracted and disconnected world, many of us lose touch with what’s happening inside ourselves. My goal is to help you slow down, get to the root of your struggles, and reconnect with the world in an authentic way.
I work from a trauma-informed lens with all my clients, not just those seeking trauma therapy. I support individuals navigating their relationship to substances, intimacy and relationship dynamics, sex therapy, life transitions, and mental health challenges such as anxiety or depression.
I know how difficult it is to change deeply ingrained patterns, which is why my favourite part of being a therapist is celebrating both the small and big steps my clients take toward transformation. I use a range of therapeutic interventions, always tailored to your needs, to help you move through challenges. Therapy language isn’t always easy to connect with, which is why I enjoy using creativity to shape concepts into metaphors that truly fit your worldview.
In practice, I primarily draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and somatic approaches such as Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Experiencing, and other body-based interventions. I also integrate concepts from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Internal Family Systems Therapy.
I knew from a young age that I wanted to become a counsellor, after witnessing and personally experiencing systemic gaps in mental health and substance use services in Saskatoon. My journey began with a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Addictions Counselling from the University of Lethbridge, where I gained experience supporting youth in residential care, working in opioid antagonist therapy, and offering solution-focused brief counselling. In 2025, I completed my Master of Counselling Psychology at Adler University in Vancouver. I chose Vancouver because it exposed me to some of the most socially just, diversity-inclusive, and advanced mental health care in Canada. My time working with male survivors of sexual abuse in British Columbia deeply shaped my approach to trauma—focusing on safety, stability, and growth.
After six years away finishing my studies, coming back to Saskatoon feels both full-circle and incredibly fulfilling. I am a knowledge seeker at heart, always researching new approaches and pursuing additional training and supervision to better support my clients. Outside of counselling, I’m an avid reader, dedicated friend, yogi, and adventurer.
